Trade Shows in Your Area!

We’re almost done the trade show season — and it has been a great one!

Did you stop by at any of the shows Western Sportsman was at this year? Saskatoon, Red Deer or Edmonton?

We just finished the Edmonton Boat & Sportsman’s Show last weekend; this is always our busiest show (although Red Deer gives it a run for its money). I was really happy to meet a lot of you, our readers, and, frankly, a little surprised how many of you recognized me from my photo in the magazine. I’ve been meaning to get a better one taken…

A lot of you asked me about Reader Submitted photos — mainly, why yours hasn’t appeared in the magazine yet. There are generally two reasons for this: one, it’s merely in the queue, as we receive TONS of photos from the 30,000-plus subscribers/newsstand buyers who receive Western Sportsman each issue. So, at times, it can take a few issues to get your photo in.

Another issue is photo resolution. Please remember to set your digital cameras at the highest possible resolution. Check your owner’s manual for specs. I know that when you set it to a high pixel count, it means you can fit less photos on a memory card, but unless your photo is at minimum 1,200 x 1,600 pixels, we can’t print it. Ever. And there’s no way to “fix it” after the fact. (Also, if you must mail in a print – we prefer digital – please ensure it’s a professionally developed print, not a home-job.) This is particularly of note with cellphone cameras… we rarely see a photo taken with a phone that meets our quality requirements. (Maybe an iPhone.)

But other than that, you, the reader, seemed pretty pleased with Western Sportsman. And that makes us all happy — we’re nothing without you.

If you’re in the Edmonton area during the last weekend in March (31 to April 1), stop by the Mayfield Convention Centre for the Camper’s Village/Fishin’ Hole Show for one last hello of the trade show season. And if you haven’t renewed yet, remember — it’s the last chance to take advantage of our super-low trade show rates!

See you there!
