Gear Review: Rapala Rippin’ Rap

RippinRapSporting an antagonistic scowl with soul-penetrating eyes, the new Rippin’ Rap from Rapala tears through the water, enticing predators into a fish-fighting battle of epic proportions.

With its tall, thin bodied, lipless design, the Rippin’ Rap cranks, swims and rips its way into the thick, along rock cover, structure and anywhere in between.

“The Rippin’ Rap is a highly versatile bait,” said Mike Iaconelli, Rapala and VMC® pro staff member. “Anglers can fish the bait deep or shallow, and when it’s ripped on the retrieve, the bait gives off a hard vibrating, fluttering action that bass can’t resist.”

Designed for long casting, the Rippin’ Rap features a unique, loud-sounding rattle powered by multiple BBs that pulsate through the water on the retrieve. The rounded body features a textured scale, gill and detailed fin that are paired with extra large, deep-set 3D holographic eyes that penetrate all water conditions.

“With its versatile, lipless design and thin body, the Rippin’ Rap pushes water as it shakes on retrieve,” said Iaconelli. “As the bait is ripped and then paused, it falls with its signature flutter and that’s when the strike will happen. Based on water temperature, anglers can entice the strike with a fast or slow retrieve.”

The Rippin’ Rap is available in three sizes: 05, 06 and 07 with variable running depths. Size 05 is 2 inches long, weighs 5/16 ounce and is equipped with a No. 8 VMC belly treble hook and No. 10 VMC tail treble hook. Size 06 is 2-½ inches long, weighs ½ ounce with a No. 6 VMC belly treble hook and a No. 8 VMC tail treble hook. Size 07 is 2-¾ inches long, weighs 7/8 ounce and features a No. 4 VMC belly treble hook and a No. 6 VMC tail treble hook.

Anglers can choose from 12 must-have color patterns including Chrome, Chrome Blue, Chrome Moss Back Shiner, Chartreuse Shad, Dark Brown Crawdad, Firetiger, Gold Chrome, Helsinki Shad, Olive Green Craw, Pearl Grey Shiner, Red Crawdad and Yellow Perch.
