The Browning A-Bolt has been around for just shy of 30 years. This year, Browning has introduced the AB3, which is a value-priced rifle that has undergone a major revamping of the original A-Bolt.

The many new features include a new bolt and action design, detachable box magazine, integrated trigger design, composite stock design and some of the standby features of the A-Bolt, such as the top-tang safety, bolt unlock button, a hammer forged barrel, 60-degree bolt lift and an inflex technology recoil pad. It is available in most standard calibres, including WSM calibres, and in both long and short actions.

I must admit, I really appreciated the feel and balance of this rifle and the trigger was better than I expected on a modestly priced rifle. It is scheduled for release this spring and I believe it will be around for some time, as it provides hunters with a quality rifle at a price most can afford.

MSRP: $599
