Just as a pair of ill-fitting boots can ruin a hunt, so too can the pack bag you choose, especially if you are hunting in those lung-crushing and leg-cramping destinations.

My first pack was so ill fitting, not to mention the lack of either padded shoulder straps or a hip strap, that I seriously considered leaving it on the mountainside after the first day.

While not every pack or pack bag will fill every need, some, such as the ALPS Outdoor Z Falcon, do cover a number of essential bases. It has comfortable padded shoulder straps, a padded waist strap with two pockets and a drop down weapon pocket to comfortably and securely carry a bow or rifle, thus freeing up both hands for such things as climbing a rock slide or a tree stand.

Additionally, it features a ventilated back to allow maximum air flow and reduce perspiration, large front and main pocket, an organizational pocket for better gear organization, front lashing system, hydration pocket and port, lower side mesh pockets, dual directional frame to support heavy loads, blaze orange rain cover, and webbing loops for lashing. It is available in two camouflage patterns: Brushed Realtree Xtra HD and Brushed Break-Up Infinity.

MSRP: $139.99
