Every once in a while, I discover a product designed for Canadian users. It is noteworthy for that reason alone, but when it offers an array of features that can be of use to those of us who live north of the border, it is a product worth detailing.

The Magellan eXplorist 610 Canada certainly fits that mould. It offers high sensitivity GPS reception with easy-to-read mapping for precise, unparalleled outdoor navigation. It allows the user to find his/her way using maps or a series of different compass screens, as well as create way points, record tracks and route from point to point.

You can download up to 10,000 paperless geocache files and review your trip statistics with more than 30 navigational data fields. It uses the Summit Series Canada as a topographical map, which includes hi-resolution digital terrain information and contour lines. It also integrates a 3.2 mega-pixel camera, microphone and a speaker that allows the user to create complete geographic and multimedia records of each outdoor adventure.

Just think, with one device you can now photograph that big bull without having to pack an extra camera, or relocate its exact location for future reference. And the four-corner user interface and convenient hard buttons make this unit one of the easiest handheld GPS receivers to use.

Its two AA batteries will provide up to 16 hours of use and, to assist in extending battery life, you can use the suspend mode, which will turn the unit off but still maintain GPS tracking.

MSRP: $399
