Western Sportsman Hits The Walleye Trail

Many readers may not realize that the longest running and most well-rounded hunting and fishing magazine throughout the western provinces is the Western Sportsman magazine. The magazine has been in publication since the 1960s. Why has it been able to stand the test of time? Because the pages of Western Sportsman are filled with exciting and knowledgeable information on hunting, fishing and a variety of related subjects concerning the outdoors. And now, Western Sportsman is hitting the walleye trail.

Western Sportsman magazine, Two Guys Hunting, Lyman Lures, Tracker Boats, and of course me, will be competing this season at variety of walleye tournaments throughout the western provinces, Ontario and, if time permits, we will slip across the US boarder and try our luck on the southern waters.

It’s quite an honour to be representing such great companies that pride themselves on having and producing the very best products in their related industries. It was also quite a feeling to see Western Canada’s longest running hunting and fishing magazine’s decals on the side of my boat and on my tournament jerseys. After my jerseys arrived in the mail I put them on and walked around the house as excited as a little boy on Christmas morning.

During the 2013 tournament season, it was impossible not to find a copy of the popular magazine being read by other tournament anglers. Tournament anglers would come off the water after eight hours of fishing and would relax by reading Western Sportsman, and now I have the honour of fishing for the popular magazine. As I write this blog, I’m pre-fishing for my third tournament of the season. We came off the water around 7 p.m. and I’m enjoying a quiet evening in the motor home, writing. We’re only three tournaments into the season, and I’ve already been referred to as the “Western Sportsman boat.” What a feeling!
