This just came my way from Kelly Semple of Hunting for Tomorrow:

Elk Island National Park, in conjunction with Fish and Wildlife Division of Alberta Sustainable Resource Development, is looking for giant liver fluke (Fascioloides magna) in the liver and occasionally lungs of moose, elk and deer. The flukes do not infect humans nor harm the meat but can be a management concern in infected moose

A big kudos for our government for the inquiry into what the heck happened to our sockeye this year (COUGH... open net pen farms.... COUGH).

It's a big step in the right direction.

Two years ago, Alberta instated its first-ever provincial hunting day, something that has become an annual event-of-sorts every September since.

This year, Manitoba followed suit, and I'm sure they'll keep it for 2010 as well.

Great, right? More recognition of hunting, and a government sanctioned day that shows everybody -- rural hunter and know-nothing urbanite alike -- the value of hunting.

I'd like to throw a question out there for readers of this blog - do you watch hunting and fishing programs on TV?

With Wild TV and WFN available in most places in this country, I'm just personally interested in how many of our readers supplement their magazine subscription with a little down time in front of the television.

Post below and let us know - yes or no?

Thanks a lot.

Have you fly fished the Wigwam River in Fernie, BC?

No?

You're missing out - big time.

I just returned from a trip there this week, and I am blown away by the quality of this fishery. Huge bull trout and fiesty westslope cutthroat trout all in a gorgeous, easily accesible location? Can't be beaten!

Sure, the Classified Waters licence is pricey for non-BC residents, and whether or not you agree with

I would like to put a question out there into cyberspace...

Following the now-infamous incident of the duck shooters who uploaded their crimes against nature onto YouTube (CLICK HERE to read the latest), I have to wonder somewhat about the punishment...

OK, $16,000 in total fines -- I get that. Forfeiture of rifles and camcorders -- that makes sense. Public humiliation? That was thrown in for
