Hunters in the "Media"

I was at home with the stomach flu yesterday, so I had the rare "opportunity" to watch a little daytime TV.
Flipping through channels, I stumbled across Whoopi Goldberg, the actress from "Jumping Jack Flash" and other not-so-Oscar-worthy performances, talking about deer hunting. So I stopped flipping for a moment.
Goldberg is a host on The View, a talk show primarily aimed at middle-aged American women.
Goldberg, it seems, was relating a story that she thought was simply hilarious. In November, Kansas hunter Randy Goldman shot a whitetail with two well-placed shots from his .270. The deer dropped.
Upon inspection, though, the animal sprung up and gored the hunter quite severly, causing him a trip to the hospital.
And Whoopi Goldberg and her co-hosts thought this was hilarious that this "savage hunter" got "what was coming to him." Hysterical, in fact. I wonder if that hunter's friends and family thought the same. I wonder if the hunter himself thought it was hilarious as the deers sharp antlers dug into his flesh and the hoofs trampled him.
After the story was over, the once-respected Barbara Walters, another host of the show, asked, "Did the deer die?"
Whoopi hung her head. "Yes, the deer died."
"Oh, that's too bad..."
The deer had two bullets in its vitals! Of course it died!
This shows not only how ignorant some in the mainstream are to hunting, but how self-righteous they are as well.
Do I need to bring up that Whoopi Goldberg went on record DEFENDING dogfighter Michael Vick? According to this oh-so-wise woman, dogfighting and deer hunting are one in the same.
It's all so offensive.
Frankly, I don't care if you hunt or not. It's your right to hunt, just like it's your right not to hunt. It's also your right to have your own opinion about anything you want.
It's ignorance that I have a problem with.
Whoopi - learn the facts about hunting, and meat consumption in general. And have some compassion for your fellow human beings while you're at it.
I may not like you much, but I certainly don't wish you harm.
So... who is the savage again?
