West Coast Salmon

Holy cow! Time to head out West! From all reports the salmon fishing is going gangbusters.

"Fish Tales" columnist Wayne Norstrom just phoned me up before his trip to the Queen Charlotte Islands. Apparently there are some good amounts of chinook to be caught - but they're darn near impossible to get to because of all the coho! ot a bad problem to have. (In terms of BBQ fare, I'll take a six-pound coho  over a tyee any day... but who am I kidding, I go West for the big guys.)

A friend of mine just reported back from a weekend at Oak Bay Marine Group's Canadian Princess Resort in Ucluelet, BC - how does catching your limit in chinook, coho and halibut sound? Chinook to 30 pounds or so, halibut to 85 pounds... yum yum.

So get out there... and in these "tough times," trust me, there are some great deals to be had at these fishing resorts...

..And then fire up your barbecue and enjoy!

Holy Cow is right. This is shaping up to be another boom year for salmon on the west coast. I got an email from Bill Otway telling me that he could walk over the water on the backs of salmon. Not quite but you get the idea. Now if I only could wrestle a day free to head to the coast too.
