SHEEP & GRIZZLY COUNTRY

Image

The Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep and grizzly bears live in some of the most spectacular and rugged country on the planet. Filmmaker Leon Lorenz journeys into the Alberta Rocky Mountains and captures rare and incredible footage of a sheep fight that lasts for hours. The battle starts off with three rams against a very determined new comer to the band. The fighting of bighorns is one of the most exciting rituals in the mountains.

The mountain grizzly bears have only humans to fear as they roam the valleys and mountains that they call home. British Columbia has some of the best habitat for them and Leon has spent many years capturing close-up and seldom seen behaviors of these powerful and unpredictable animals that are born to be forever wild.

FEATHERED FRIENDS

Image

From soaring eagles to tiny hummingbirds growing up in a nest we humans have marvelled at the design and beauty of these feathered creatures. Filmmaker Leon Lorenz has captured rare and exciting footage of birds and you are invited to experience it as well.

A true call of the wild is the drumming of a male ruffed grouse which attracts a mate and a hungry coyote. A mother white-tailed ptarmigan with new born chicks allows Leon with his camera to approach within 24 inches, but a protective northern goshawk will dive-bomb him because of her nest nearby. A bald eagle attaching geese or drowning a duck-it's all in a days work! Robins attacking an owl, ospreys fishing, golden eagles hunting and other birds of prey in action are all filmed for your enjoyment. Many species of birds that have young in nest include the American dipper, bald eagle, eastern kingbird and cedar waxwing.

BIGHORN SHOWDOWNS

One of the most exciting rituals in all of nature is the annual rutting season of the Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep. Filmmaker Leon Lorenz takes you off the beaten track of Jasper National Park and into its wilderness areas to film their unique behaviors. He also takes you into Cadomin, Alberta where some of the largest rams live. Watch close and exciting wild action as they engage in spectacular confrontations.

On cliffs the 18 month old yearlings display a "catch me if you can" attitude as they literally run circles around the mature rams which are in pursuit of the ewes. Their agility and youthful energy make for very exciting chases. See rams being rolled over, tee-boned down mountains, knocked over cliffs, coyotes interacting with a herd of sheep and so much more.

MOUNTAIN WONDERS

Image

Majestic Wonders of the Rocky Mountain Trench, Jasper National Park, Mount Robson, Mount Terry Fox and Wells Gray provincial parks are breathtaking with rugged mountains, forests, glaciers, lakes, rivers, waterfalls and wildlife. Areas like the Trophy Mountain Meadows and Helmcken Falls in Wells Gray Park are world famous and enjoyed. See rugged mountain beauty on the Berg Lake Trail in Mount Robson Park, with glaciers, lakes, waterfalls, rivers and wildlife. A panorama of the Rocky Mountains from Mount Terry Fox is unforgettable. In Jasper National Park, elk and bighorn sheep are in exciting action during the rut.

On the wilder side, Leon Lorenz films in the Rocky Mountain Trench during the four seasons and often in extreme weather conditions. Grizzlies, black bears, moose, mountain goats, wolves, wolverines, martens and more are enjoyed, Close encounters are often experienced, like when a mother grizzly with her cub crosses through a mountain stream not knowing a filmmaker was busy with his camera just seven meters away!
