The Caribou Grand Slam PDF Print E-mail
Hunters looking to collect one of each sub-species of caribou — a “Caribou Grand Slam” — need to understand the differences in hunting regions, cover, terrain and timing to be successful. I embarked on my first caribou hunt 17 years ago, in the rugged mountains of the Yukon Territory, and after taking my first mountain caribou bull I knew I would chase these northern deer for the rest of my life. The Boone and Crockett club lists five separate sub-species of caribou: mountain, barren ground, central Canada barren ground, Quebec/Labrador and woodland in their record books. The only one left on my hunting dream list is the woodland — how about yours?
