The Edmonton Gun Club is hosting the fourth annual Shoot For Parkinson’s event in August, in support of finding a cure for Parkinson’s Disease. The shoot out will be held on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, and the $100 entry fee gets you 100 targets, a barbecue steak supper and ammunition. Edmonton is currently the only city in Canada to have two Cabela’s locations. Cabela’s staff estimated about 2,o00 customers lined up to get into the store on opening morning, but this is about 1,000 less than the crowd that gathered for the grand opening of the first Edmonton location. On April 11, 2014, Remington Arms Company announced a voluntary recall of Model 700 and Model Seven rifles with X-Mark Pro (XMP) triggers, manufactured from May 1, 2006, to April 9, 2014. Engineers with Remington determined that some of these rifles, with the XMP triggers, could unintentionally discharge. Remington’s investigation determined that some XMP triggers might have excess bonding agent used in the assembly process, which could cause this unintentional discharge. According to a recent press release from Pheasants Are Forever, the Alberta government has decided it will no longer support the release of pheasants in Alberta, stating the $300,000 it costs to release these birds into huntable release sites, as well as river bottoms, coulees and private lands, is too much. In February 2013, the Alberta government released a statement indicating Chronic Wasting Disease had been confirmed in an Alberta moose. This is the first case of CWD documented in a moose – in Alberta and in Canada – and there are only a few documented cases of CWD in moose in Colorado and Wyoming.
